Clinical Research Fellow

Soma is collaborating on a research project in Professor Robert MacLaren's team, while completing her ophthalmology training. Her project focusses on clinical phenotyping of inherited retinal diseases including choroideremia and retinitis pigmentosa.

Federica completed her medical degree at the University of Leicester, where she graduated in 2020 with Honours and won Best Overall Final Year Student Prize for best performance in MBChB as a whole.

She quickly developed an interest in research during her medical studies, which led her to complete an intercalated Master of Science (MSc) degree in Medical Research with Distinction. During that time, she won the Wolfson Foundation Intercalated Award administered by the Royal College of Physicians and the Kidney Research UK Intercalated Degree Award for her work on the use of cardiac magnetic resonance in patients on haemodialysis.
