Participating in mentoring schemes can have a transformative effect in terms of developing your career goals, providing you with new perspectives, and increasing your confidence and self-awareness 

The Medical Sciences Division and the University provide a range of different mentoring and support network options:

  • The Divisional Peer Mentoring Scheme is open to both Research and Professional, Technical, and Support staff. The scheme is based on a format of peer mentoring circle, comprising of 3–4 mentees and one more senior mentor. The mentoring circles should run initially for a 12 month period, and applications open in Trinity Term.
  • Ad Feminam mentoring is intended to encourage women to explore their leadership potential within academic life, or within an administrative career.
  • Pivot Mentoring offers two mentoring schemes for black and minority ethnic staff. For BME staff at any grade, Pathway A uses mentoring circles where you can network with others across the University, discuss your individual circumstances and actions in a holistic way, and work on your personal and/or professional development. For BME staff at grad 6 and above, Pathway B focuses on  career progression by providing access to senior staff in a one-to-one relationship, and by providing space to consider targeted career development.
  • The OxFEST Mentoring scheme offers mentors from both academia and industry, and can be conducted via email contact, face-to-face meetings, telephone calls or video calls.
  • The Career Support Network for administrative and support staff is for administrative or support staff up to grade 8 in the University. By providing access to a number of managers and experienced recruiters, participants can receive confidential, impartial advice about an internal job application, a job interview, or with rewriting their CV.
  • Oxford Research Network is a forum for research nurses, co-ordinators, data managers and others working in clinical research. The network aims to foster an open and constructive environment in which those working in research can share knowledge, experience and information relating to how members work.
