Consulting the University's introductory guides to staff development for research staff and professional and administrative staff is a good starting point when thinking about how you might expand your skill set or grow your career.

Both online and face-to-face training sessions are provided by Divisional and central University services.

  • The Medical Sciences Division runs a termly programme of skills training, including graduate student training, guidance on issues related to medical research (ethics, research techniques), general research skills, and personal development.
  • The Oxford Learning Institute (OLI) offers a comprehensive programme of courses for all staff, including includes teaching and learning, leadership and management, and personal development.
  • The IT Learning Centre delivers frequent classes and online course, covering both basic, intermediate, and advanced IT-related skills
  • The University Administration and Services run regular induction events and a biannual conference, which includes sessions on policy updates, careers in university administration, skills development, and new projects, as well as providing networking opportunities. PowerPoint presentations from previous conferences are available online
  • The Careers Service has a wealth of online self-help resources to encourage you to reflect upon your career options. Research staff at grade 7 and above, current students, and alumni can access the CareerConnect portal to book appointment with a careers advisor, view the Career Service’s events, and search for vacancies.
