Primary Schools
Our scientists love showing primary school children how MRI works and giving them a chance to make up their own experiments to do on our scanners.
We also go into schools and inspire the next generation of scientists to think about how the brain works.
In this video, a local primary school head teacher explain why she feels it is important for children to learn about the brain, and why visits from our scientists help to bring this to life.
Activities that we do with school children include:
- Build a plasticine brain - Learn about the basic functions and organisation of the brain
- Making a neural network - Make your own neuron and learn how these brain cells communicate and help us to learn
- Watch the brain in action – Come to the FMRIB Centre to watch the brain light up!
- Interactive workshops on brain organisation - a neuroscientist would come to school give a presentation
