We are conducting a study to test the use of Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (TDCS; a brain stimulation technique) to improve behavioural rehabilitation after right hemisphere stroke. We are particularly interested in testing people who have problems of attention, memory and action in the left part of space or in the left side of their body (the so-called ‘neglect’ syndrome).

We would like to see whether brain stimulation can improve the effectiveness of a behavioural therapy for ‘neglect’ called prism adaptation. The study would involve fourteen visits to the John Radcliffe Hospital spread over twelve weeks, which will include five treatment sessions and two MRI scans. We will also invite you to an additional session at 20 weeks to measure the long-term effects of the treatment.

We need volunteers between 18 and 80 years of age who have suffered no more than one stroke. If you have a metallic implant, cardiac pacemaker, a history of epilepsy, are pregnant or suffer from claustrophobia you should not volunteer.
