"Scene-Selectivity and Retinotopy in Medial Parietal Cortex" - Silson et al. 2016

We are pleased to announce the publication of a paper from a collaborating group, on which PhD student Adam Steel is an author.  This paper has been published with Adam's American research group (Section on Learning and Plasticity), led by Dr. Chris Baker at the NIH.

The paper, entitled "Scene-Selectivity and Retinotopy in Medial Parietal Cortex" was published in Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, and can be found online here.

SUMMARY

The paper describes  the topological organization of scene-selective cortex on the medial wall.  Based on it's scene-selectivity, retinotopic profile, and functional connectivity, we suggest that this region, which we call medial place area, transforms visual information about scenes into more abstract representations.  This occurs along an anterior-posterior gradient, where posterior regions process retinotopically-based scene information and more anterior regions showing connectivity that may be reflect navigationally pertinent and possibly mnemonic representations.
