Biography

I received my pre-medical training in Life Science at Tsinghua University, and finished clinical medicine in Peking Union Medical college, where I joined two research groups led by Prof. Chao Ma focusing on the mechanisms of pain and itch and Prof. Liying Cui who specialises in clinical care and research in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. I received the Chinese Scholarship Council (CSC) and the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (CAMS) Innovation Fund for Medical Science (CIFMS) and started Dphil at the University of Oxford in 2019.

RESEARCH SUMMARY

I'm studying the expression profile of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) in comparison with healthy people using induced-pluripotent stem cells derived from patients with C9orf72 mutations, which are differentiated into motor neurons in our lab. In particular I'm looking at the actively translating mRNAs by a technique called Translating Ribosomal Affinity Purification (TRAP) at baseline and in stressed conditions. The aim of this project is to investigate how translation and stress response are affected  in C9orf72-ALS.
