Ndcn summer party

Student events

  • Induction day: We hold a semi-formal induction day, including lunch, in October to allow the new intake of graduate students to meet their peer group and the key personnel who will be involved during their graduate studies. We also invite a keynote speaker.
  • Thomas Willis poster day: We hold this annually in March. All first, second and third year DPhil students submit a poster about their project to date. A prize is given for the best poster in each year group. The afternoon concludes with the annual Thomas Willis Lecture given by a distinguished neuroscientist.
  • Monthly seminars: This is a lively programme of seminars for the whole Department that is very well attended. Speakers range across the neuroscience spectrum and are mainly from other universities.
  • Student Club: The NDCN Student Club was formed two years ago as part of a milestone departmental initiative and comprises the approximate 100 postgraduate students across the four sections of the NDCN. The club aims to facilitate a central point of communication for all students of the Department, organising regular academic and social events including guest speakers, dinners, and student talks, as well as implementing initiatives all aimed at improving inclusivity and increasing graduate support.
  • Annual Lunch: This is for each year group with the Director of Graduate Studies and postgraduate administrator and is an informal forum to raise any issues.

Our Director of Graduate Studies is Dr Stephanie Halford.
