Petronella Kettunen

Visiting Senior Research Fellow

Petronella Kettunen is an associate professor at the Sahlgrenska Academy at University of Gothenburg, Sweden, a visiting senior research fellow at University of Oxford and co-director of the Centre for Cognitive Medicine, Gothenburg, Sweden. She is also associated with the Memory clinic in Mölndal, Sweden as a member of the steering committee of the Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) study.

PhD in Medicine (Neuroscience), Karolinska Institutet, November 2004.

Thesis title: Neuromodulation within a spinal locomotor network - role of metabotropic glutamate receptor subtypes. Supervisors: Abdel El Manira and Sten Grillner.



Current research in the Kettunen lab include:

1) molecular and cellular mechanisms of learning and memory

2) pathways underlying memory impairments and neurodegeneration in Alzheimer’s disease

3) the role of microglia in Alzheimer’s disease

4) neuronal networks underlying social behavior
