Katrina Y. K. Tse
DPhil
Postdoctoral Researcher in Sleep Medicine
I am a Postdoctoral Researcher in Sleep Medicine at the Sleep and Circadian Neuroscience Institute (SCNi). My current work, supported by the Wellcome Trust, involves investigating the causal mechanisms underpinning the active ingredients of Sleep Restriction Therapy (SRT) on depression and anxiety in young adults, where I lead the day-to-day implementation and coordination of the trial. Together with my study team, we deliver clinical interviews, home-based polysomnography assessments, dim light melatonin onset assessments and behavioural sleep interventions to assess the biological, cognitive and behavioural action ingredients of SRT.
My journey to sleep research started during my Master's degree at the University of Warwick with Professor Nicola Tang, where I explored the day-to-day association between sleep disturbances and pain perception in new mothers. I completed my DPhil at the University of Oxford under the supervision of Professor Simon Kyle and Professor Colin Espie, where investigated the role of emotional processing and regulation in the link between insomnia and depression.
