Women in Clinical Neuroscience Network (WICN) Terms of Reference
WICN Terms of Reference (TOR)
To support the recruitment and retention of female researchers in clinical neuroscience at Oxford, the WICN Committee aims at:
- Providing a warm, confidential and welcoming environment to build friendships and form peer support networks
- Facilitating open and frank discussion of individual experiences of progression barriers, from junior to senior level
- Considering what makes a successful female neuroscientist at all career stages via individual case presentations
- Recognising and supporting the differing career paths of female clinician and non-clinician researchers in clinical neuroscience.
- Signposting support that already exists for women in NDCN
Additional TOR include:
1. work with NDCN’s People & Culture Working Groups where appropriate, especially on areas of overlap with the EDI Working Group and Athena Swan self-assessment process,
2. provide annual report of activities, including measures of success, to the EDI Working Group,
3. submit requests for department budget to support planned events to the EDI Working Group for approval,
4. pilot a mentoring scheme specifically for female researchers in clinical neurosciences - current and aspiring.
Meetings
Meetings and events are organised on an ad hoc basis and are open to everyone in NDCN. Alongside these, some dedicated activities and schemes will focus on supporting female scientists, in line with the WICN Committee’s mission to empower women in academia.
See the WICN IN THE NEWS section of this website for more details on past and perspective meetings.
