This year, thanks to a truly coordinated effort from teams across the department, NDCN has proudly received multiple Bronze, Silver and Gold LEAF awards.

Winners of LEAF gold awards 2025-2026 from CPSD and BNDU
LEAF gold awards for the Wolfson Collective (led by Katy Onions and Annette Burgess) and MRC BNDU (Magill, Dupret and Sharott groups)

Congratulations to all the labs all received their Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework (LEAF) accreditation, with particular mention to the five groups in BNDU and CPSD who were awarded gold.

LEAF is a nationally recognised scheme designed to improve the sustainability and efficiency of laboratories. To gain the accreditation, each lab is audited for the practical steps they had taken to meet several assessment criteria, including those related to the use of equipment and space, the management of samples and chemicals, ventilation, waste/recycling, and the engagement of colleagues.

Here's the list of accredited labs in full:

Alexandra Almeida, NDCN Strategic Initiatives Manager, says "The LEAF (Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework) programme plays a crucial role in embedding sustainable practices across our research environments, helping us reduce our environmental impact without compromising scientific excellence.

A special thank you goes to Clarissa Marley, who led the accreditation process at JR Level 5 and Level 1 with exceptional dedication. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to Camille Louiseau in BNDU, Ma'ayan Semo for the SCNi labs, and Louise Silver for her work in CPSD. Your leadership and commitment have been instrumental in this achievement."
