Mechanisms of Neurotoxicity in Childhood Cancer Therapy

Claire is a DPhil student in Clinical Neurosciences at the University of Oxford, funded by a Studentship with the Childrens Cancer and Leukaemia Group (CCLG). She is supervised by Professor Olaf Ansorge and Dr Casmir Turnquist.

Her interests lie in the effects of radiation and chemotherapy on the developing human brain. Specifically, the adverse consequences on cognitive and neurological development, late-stage degenerative changes, or secondary neoplasms. Her DPhil will focus on dissecting the molecular biological consequences of radiotherapy and chemotherapy on the developing human brain at spatial and cell-type specific resolution. This research will directly address toxic side effects experienced by people with paediatric cancer to bring immediate insight into the causes of the clinically observed consequences of radiation and chemotherapy treatment.

Claire worked as a Research Assistant in Olaf Ansorge's group after graduating from the University of Oxford in 2023 with a MSc in Radiation Biology. She graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2022 with a BSc in Physics.
