Minjung (Serena) Kim

DPhil Student

BIOGRAPHY

Minjung Kim obtained her BSc in Biological Sciences from Seoul National University and an MRes in Molecular and Cellular Biosciences from Imperial College London. She then worked as a research assistant in the UK Dementia Research Institute at University College London, in the laboratory of Dr. Soyon Hong, where she investigated how neuronal hyperactivity drives immune-mediated synapse loss in Alzheimer’s disease. Minjung is currently pursuing a DPhil in Clinical Neurosciences under the supervision of Professor George Tofaris at the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences, University of Oxford.

RESEARCH INTERESTS

Minjung is interested in how cellular interactions between neurons and glial cells contribute to neurodegeneration. Her doctoral research focuses on modelling neuron–microglia–astrocyte communication using human iPSC-derived tri-culture systems to investigate pathogenic mechanisms in Parkinson’s disease .
