Tackling Pain
Our pain research spans genetics and psychology, making us one of the strongest centres in the country for work on this topic.
Our Neural Injury Group is improving our understanding of the response of the peripheral nervous system to injury. This is helping us to develop strategies to promote peripheral nerve repair and to prevent the development of neuropathic pain.
The Pain Analgesia/Anaesthesia Imaging Neuroscience Group is investigating how the human central nervous system generates and modulates painful experiences in acute and chronic settings.
Using non-invasive magnetic resonance imaging in humans, our Pain & Mind Group is researching how beliefs are generated, maintained and revised in the brain and how they influence pain perception.
