Dr Rezvan Farahibozorg has received one of 17 Royal Academy of Engineering Research Fellowships for 2022.

The fellowship programme supports outstanding early career researchers to become future research leaders in engineering. The fellowships are designed to advance excellence in engineering by providing funding of up to £625,000 over five years, to allow awardees the freedom to concentrate on basic research in any field of engineering.

Rezvan Farahibozorg has been awarded for her project ‘Next generation brain function mapping techniques for personalised medicine’. She has taken up her Fellowship in September 2022, working at the Wellcome Centre for Integrative Neuroimaging in the Nuffield Department for Clinical Neurosciences. Her research aims to design a new machine learning framework based on non-invasive functional brain imaging, to enable accurate and personalised prediction of diseases, ideally, before clinical onset. With aging populations and increasing neurogenerative disease, this is a timely healthcare problem that can be addressed by these novel methods.

Rezvan’s fellowship will be conducted in collaboration with Oxford’s WIN-FMRIB, WIN-OHBA and Computer Science departments, as well as KCL and Donders Institute. It aims to design tools that can extract clinically relevant population patterns from thousands of individuals in UK Biobank, and additionally aims to bridge the gap between healthy population imaging and clinical cohorts, to create personalised brain profiles for memory patients in Oxford’s Brain Health Centre.
