Investigating mechanisms of TDP-43 toxicity in mouse embryonic stem cell (mESC)-derived motor neurons

My research focusses on investigating the role of mutant TDP-43 in the pathophysiology of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. In mESC-derived motor neurons, I am studying the effects of the TARDBP M337V mutation on cellular phenotypes including stress responses, cellular energy metabolism and axonal transport. I am also using this model as a platform for drug discovery, to identify compounds that reverse pathological phenotypes associated with the expression of mutant TDP-43.
