Biography
Alex Waldman is a National Institutes of Health-Oxford Scholar co-mentored by Dr. Michael Lenardo (NIH/NIAID) and Dr. Gabriele De Luca (Oxford/NDCN). He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in May 2016 where he earned comprehensive honors degrees in both Neurobiology and Spanish, while simultaneously earning certificates in Global Health, European Studies, and Stem Cell Sciences. During his undergraduate degree, he was an active scientific contributor to the Peter Ferrazzano and Qiang Chang research groups. Prior to beginning his DPhil, Alex completed his preclinical medical training at the Emory University School of Medicine where he received grants from the Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers and the Radiological Society of North America to stay connected to research and investigate the sexually dimorphic nature of multiple sclerosis utilizing biochemical and radiological approaches. During the course of his DPhil, Alex will investigate the genetic underpinnings of multiple sclerosis to better understand heterogeneity in pathogenesis and response to treatment. Overall, as a future clinician-scientist, Alex hopes to continue conducting interdisciplinary collaborative research that can ultimately lead to breakthroughs that effect change clinically.
