Anna Guttesen

I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Oxford Centre for Integrative Neuroimaging in Professor Heidi Johansen-Berg's Plasticity Group and Dr Melanie Fleming's Neurorehab group. My work focuses on understanding the role of sleep for memory consolidation in healthy adults across the lifespan and in stroke survivors.

In particular, my research focuses on measuring sleep-related EEG signatures and their contributions to memory consolidation. To investigate this, I use a mix of techniques including behavioural, EEG and other neuroimaging measures combined with paradigms such as auditory closed-loop stimulation and targeted memory reactivation. My studies takes place both inside and outside the lab setting, from controlled neuroimaging studies in the lab to naturalistic at-home environment using wearable EEG devices.

Prior to my work at Oxford, I completed a PhD at the Department of Psychology, University of York, supervised by Dr Scott Cairney and Prof Gareth Gaskell. In my PhD, I investigated sleep’s role in overnight consolidation and next-day learning of declarative memories.
