Buse Ünlü Kobya

DPhil Student

My journey

I graduated at the top of my class from the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, Turkey, ranking first among my peers and third within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. During my undergraduate studies, my colleague and I successfully secured funding for our research project titled “Elucidation of the Potential Cytotoxic Effects of Strigolactone Analogues in the Tumorigenic U87 Cell Line” through the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) under the 2209-A Research Project Support Programme for Undergraduate Students (2020/2).

In 2023, I completed my Master’s degree in Neuroscience, during which I was awarded the prestigious TUBITAK 2210-A National Scholarship for MSc Students (2021/2). Currently, I am pursuing my DPhil in the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences at the University of Oxford.  Since 2023, I have been working on molecular determinants of neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration in multiple sclerosis in Gabe's group. My journey to study human brain and neuroscience in the UK has been made possible by a grant from the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of National Education, General Directorate of Higher and Foreign Education, specifically through the YLSY Scholarship Programme.
