Karolien Groenewald

Karolien Groenewald is a medical doctor, neurologist and research fellow at the Oxford Parkinson's Disease Centre, Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences, University of Oxford.
She is attained her medical degree in 2014 and completed her neurology specialist training in 2022. During her time as a neurology registrar, she became interested in movement disorders, Parkinson's Disease and sleep. As the Principal Investigator, she went on to study a Master's degree in Neurology investigating ictal SPECT imaging findings in REM sleep behaviour disorder in Parkinson's disease using clinical scales, polysomnography and SPECT imaging.
In 2023, she joined the Oxford Parkinson's Disease Centre where she also forms part of the Oxford-GSK Institute of Molecular and Computational Medicine. She is currently also enrolled as a DPhil student in Clinical Neurosciences, where her work focuses on clinical research in the field of synucleinopathies, with a focus on prodromal disease/ REM sleep behaviour disorder, by using clinical and biological biomarkers, polysomnography and advanced imaging techniques.
