BIOGRAPHY
Shijun graduated from the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology in 2018, where he studied Biomedical Engineering. He then received his M.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of California, Irvine in 2020, where he engineered microfluidic platforms to study human brain organoid biology.
He is currently pursing a DPhil in Clinical Neuroscience under the supervision of Professor George Tofaris. His research focus on the development of improved biochemical assays and the discovery of novel biomarkers in neuronally-derived extracellular vesicles (nEVs) isolated from blood. nEV are small membrane nanoparticles that are released by nerve cells and reach the systemic circulation. Working with colleagues in the lab and clinic, he has demonstrated the potential of serum nEV α-synuclein measurements in identifying individuals at high risk of developing PD.
