We (Buchan's lab and Foster's lab) investigate how time-of-day affects stroke-induced brain injury. I am particularly interested in how metabolic responses to ischemia and hypoxia are affected by time of day and our circadian rhythm.
I completed my PhD in Medical Sciences from University of Gothenburg (Mallard's lab). During my studies, we revealed the mechanisms by which bacterial and viral infections exacerbate neonatal hypoxic-ischemic brain injury. After receiving an international postdoc fellowship from Swedish Research Council, I joined Mike Murphy's & Thomas Krieg's lab at University of Cambridge, where we were able to identify malonate as a potential therapeutic to reduce ischemia-reperfusion injury after stroke.
