On this page, you’ll find a summary of how NDCN is using feedback from the 2025 Staff Experience Survey and NDCN’s first-ever Student Survey to shape positive change and continuous improvement.

The Staff Experience Survey remains the University’s primary tool for gathering input from staff. The feedback collected plays a vital role in informing planning at departmental, divisional, and institutional levels. It helps us celebrate what’s working well and identify areas for improvement, ensuring the University continues to be a welcoming, inclusive, and rewarding place to work. Ultimately, this supports our academic mission and long-term success.

In NDCN, seventy-one (71%) (n=341) percent of staff and 61% (n=101) of students responded to the surveys. The Staff Experience Survey was conducted by an external company, People Insight, and closed on 25 April 2025. Through the People Insight platform, we can compare our 2025 results with surveys from 2023 and 2021, allowing us to identify important trends over time. The student survey was conducted by the Medical Sciences Division (MSD) and can help us identify departmental benchmarks across the Division.

Results

Since receiving the results of this year’s Student Survey in May 2025 and the Staff Experience Survey in June 2025, People & Culture colleagues have started to analyse the results. Carefully interpreting the data, we will continue to draw insight from the feedback shared by staff and students to understand the experience of working in NDCN and to inform change.

The initial findings were shared at the Virtual Townhall Event that took place on 1 July 2025. The event was recorded for those who were unable to attend. An anonymous Mentimeter poll was conducted during the meeting. The results of these polls will be collated and discussed further with senior leadership and the People & Culture working groups.

For those of you who were unable to attend, there is still time to participate in the anonymous polling. Please follow the link to share your insights and contribute to the department’s future initiatives.

Next steps for the survey findings will be shared in Michaelmas Term including:

  • Further analyses
  • Department priorities and actions
  • Townhall event
