Head of Department Professor Irene Tracey hosted the evening at Pembroke College. After some convivial welcome drinks, she gave a presentation about influential and interesting women from history, based on the current exhibition 'From Sappho to Suffrage' at Oxford's Weston Library.
Attendees were pleased to receive a copy of Jenni Murray's book 'Votes for Women! The Pioneers and Heroines of Female Suffrage', produced for the 100th anniversary of women getting the vote in the UK.
After a splendid dinner, Professor Tracey invited members of the Department to speak about their experiences of being women scientists and clinicians. Several people took up the challenge of expressing something they would like to say to 'their younger self', or would offer as advice to early career female researchers today.
It was a very inspiring evening full of celebration as well as reflection and determination to keep going!
