This visit is an annual event organised in partnership with Generating Genius, a charitable organisation that helps talented young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to realise their potential in science, technology, engineering and maths. We have been working with them for the past three years.
Through an aspirational programme of science leadership, academic interventions and industry-linked opportunities for students, Generating Genius helps ‘level the playing field’, and put disadvantaged young people in the running for places at the UK’s most selective universities.
The students watched a demonstration by Peter Brown and Huiling Tan, exploring how brain stimulation can be used as a therapy for disorders or the central nervous system. This is one of the many ways in which our research is making a real difference in people lives. They also had the chance to hear Russell Foster talk about sleep, as well as enjoying lunch at Brasenose College.
