Magnetic Spectroscopic Imaging (MRSI)
In addition to single voxel MRS we have a collaboration with Professor Andrew Maudsley and his group at the University of Miami, Fl, USA. We have recently implemented their MRSI approach for whole brain MRSI acquisitions - the MIDAS technique. We are particularly interested in quantifying the levels of N-acetyl aspartate (NAA), a marker of neuronal mitochondrial function. Currently this work is in its early stages in Oxford, but already it is proving a sensitive tool for imaging neuronal dysfunction in neurological diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis (in collaboration with Dr Jacqueline Palace) and Motor Neuron Disease (in collaboration with Dr Martin Turner).
