Liwen Song

DPhil Student

About me

I am currently pursuing a DPhil in Physical and Theoretical Chemistry at the University of Oxford, under the supervision of Professor Claire Vallance and Dr. Olaf AnsorgeMy research focuses on developing cutting-edge solutions in brain tissue classification using mass spectrometry and machine learning.

Before joining Oxford, I completed my undergraduate studies at Nanchang University, earning a Bachelor of Engineering in Food Science and Engineering. In addition to my undergraduate experience, I hold an MSc in Advanced Chemical Engineering with Biotechnology and an MRes in Cancer Biology from Imperial College London. My research now bridges chemistry, machine learning, and bioinformatics to address real-world challenges.

Hobbies

I am passionate about interesting sports. I am a licensed skydiver, and skydiving has become a major part of my life. What draws me most to this sport is not just the adrenaline but the sense of peace and clarity that follows each jump. The experience of freefalling through the sky brings a unique calm that helps me reset and approach challenges with a fresh perspective. I also enjoy kickboxing in my free time, although I’m not a professional. Kickboxing helps me stay both mentally and physically healthy, and it provides a great way to 'shake it off'. That said, I also love my cozy time at home especially when it is cold or rainy. I cherish the quiet moments just as much as the adrenaline-filled ones. It’s all about balance!
