Max Kirkby

DPhil Student

Max is a DPhil Student in Neuroscience at the Nuffield Department for Clinical Neurosciences, and Magdalen College, at the University of Oxford. He is currently working under the supervision of Prof. Tim Behrens & Dr Thomas Akam in the Computational Neuroscience Group. His academic qualifications include a Bachelor of Philosophy (Hons I) (Science) from the Australian National University (ANU), completed on a Tuckwell Scholarship.

He is interested in hierarchal reinforcement learning and the role of the medial prefrontal cortex in sequential planning. Previously, his research concentrated on clinical neuroimaging, innate immunology and retinal degenerative disorders. 

Max is funded by the Rhodes Scholarship (Australia-at-Large and Magdalen, 2023).
