Peter Kiraly

Doctor of Medicine Student

Biography

Peter Kiraly is an ophthalmology specialist with an interest in both medical and surgical retina. After completing his ophthalmology training at the University Eye Hospital in Ljubljana, he pursued a medical retina fellowship in Oxford. During his training, he earned a PhD in biomedicine at the University of Ljubljana and published several papers on central serous chorioretinopathy.

Following his medical retina fellowship, he undertook a clinical research fellowship under the supervision of Professor Dominik Fischer at the Oxford Eye Hospital. In this role, he contributed to several multicenter gene therapy trials for inherited retinal dystrophies and age-related macular degeneration. He also helped develop a novel ocular gene therapy for Usher syndrome, investigated gene-therapy-associated uveitis and X-linked retinoschisis, and continued his research into the pachychoroid disease spectrum.

Currently, he is undergoing a prestigious vitreoretinal fellowship at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. He regularly presents his work at major international conferences, including ARVO and EURETINA, and serves as a member of the YOURS (Young Retina Specialists) committee at EURETINA.
