Rahul Sanwlani

Biography

Rahul Sanwlani, PhD is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Clinical Neurosciences, University of Oxford, working in Professor George Tofaris’s laboratory. His research focuses on the role of extracellular vesicles (EVs) as biomarkers and mediators of Parkinson’s disease and neurodegeneration, with an emphasis on translational applications in disease diagnosis and progression monitoring.

Rahul completed his doctoral training in Biochemistry at La Trobe University, Melbourne, Australia, where his research explored the role of dietary and probiotic-derived extracellular vesicles in cancer progression and therapy. His work demonstrated that EVs derived from bovine milk, yogurt, and probiotic bacteria can modulate tumour behaviour, particularly in triple-negative breast cancer models, highlighting their potential as novel bioactive agents in disease modulation.

Following his PhD, Rahul was awarded a British Heart Foundation research fellowship at the University of Surrey, where he investigated EV-mediated intercellular communication in cardiovascular pathology, further expanding his expertise in EV biology across organ systems.

With a strong multidisciplinary background spanning cancer, cardiovascular disease, and neurodegeneration, Rahul’s research aims to harness extracellular vesicles as clinically relevant biomarkers and therapeutic targets in complex human diseases.
