Vasilis Karlaftis

Research Software Engineer

Role

I am a research software engineer at OxCIN supporting the development of MR spectroscopy and PS-OCT microscopy software for processing and visualisation. My work focuses on open-source software like FSL-MRS, FSLeyes MRS viewer, and spec2nii, as well as developing new tools to support research. In my day-to-day, I aim to write well-documented, tested, user-friendly, and robust code.

Bio

I come from Greece, where I studied Electrical and Computer Engineering. I moved to the UK in 2013 and completed a PhD degree in Cognitive Neuroscience, followed by 4 years of post-doctoral research in the University of Cambridge. I subsequently transitioned to the medtech industry, where I led the research and software development of a cardio-pulmonary medical device for 3 years.
