Bio
I graduated in Medicine in 2007 and trained in Anaesthetics, Intensive Care, and Hyperbaric Medicine in 2012 at the University of Trieste (Italy). I started my research activities during medical school exploring electroencephalography predictors of outcome after traumatic brain injury. After a Research Fellowship spent at the Coma Science Group in Liège (Belgium), I explored novel and established neurophysiological biomarkers of recovery of consciousness following brain injury.
In 2013, I obtained a MSc in Pediatric Intensive Care Medicine at the Catholic University in Rome (Italy).
I completed advanced training in Neuroanaesthesia and Neurointensive Care Medicine at both the Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit (National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, UCLH London) and Neurosciences Critical Care Unit (Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge).
In 2015, I was appointed Locum Clinical Lecturer at the University Department of Anaesthesia at the University of Cambridge and collaborated in several large multi-centre studies in NeuroCritical Care.
I also participated in several others highly competitive graduate programs related to Space Medicine (European Astronaut Centre, European Space Agency), Brain Plasticity (Utrecht University), and International Bioethics (Harvard Medical School, Harvard University).
Since May 2016, I am a Consultant in Neuroanaesthesia and Neurocritical Care at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and have taken up the role of Research Lead in Neurocritical Care.
I hold a NIHR Doctoral Research Fellowships to explore electrophysiological signatures of neurological recovery and acute alterations of consciousness after traumatic brain injury and I am interested in the clinical and research development of Continuous Critical Care ElectroEncephaloGraphy (CCCEEG).
I am a collaborator of the Podium Institute for Sports Medicine and Technology, with a research interest on sport-related concussion epidemiology and neurophysiology and in January 2024, I completed a Master in Public Health (MPH) at the University of Glasgow exploring the epidemiology and moderators of sport-related concussion in football players.
Since 2020, I am an elected Council member of the NeuroAnaesthesia and Critical Care Society of UK and Ireland, and in 2023 I was elected National UK Council Representative of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine.
Since October 2023, I am the Oxford PI for the TBI-REPORTER Experimental Medicine Network.
