Research and Teaching
I am a neurosurgeon and academic specializing in spinal and peripheral nerve surgery, neurooncology and neurotraumatology. My research interests include the treatment of degenerative spinal diseases, the application of nuclear medicine (SPECT/CT) in preoperative planning for spinal surgery, innovative techniques for the reconstruction of peripheral nerve injuries, peripheral nerve regeneration, and clinical neuroanatomy. My scientific achievements have been recognized with several awards, including the Special Award of the Rector of Charles University in Prague and the Josef Hlávka Award for the most talented students of Czech universities.
I collaborate with the Oxford Neuroscience group on research into neuropathic pain and the functional anatomy of the dorsal root ganglia (DRGs). I established the Oxford-Prague Spine and Nerve Research Group, an international initiative focused on applied neuroanatomy and surgical innovation. I am actively involved in teaching and mentoring, contributing to neuroscience and neurosurgery education at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. I serve as a supervisor for several PhD students and also as Chair of the Education Programme Committee of EUROSPINE – The Spine Society of Europe.
