Year 5 Medical Students (speciality rotation)
Building on the clinical skills learnt in year four, Oxford medical students spend year five (year 2 of the clinical course) studying the major clinical specialties which include Neurology, ENT and Ophthalmology. The new Clinical Neo course launched in July 2025 and incorporates core elements of the previous Clinical Neurosciences modules from the Brain & Behaviour course. The new course better meets the expectations outlined in the GMC Outcomes for Graduates document. A novel Clinical Neo experience features alongside a humanities thread focusing on key aspects of medical professionalism based on the report entitled ‘Advancing Medical Professionalism’ published by the Royal College of Physicians.
Structure of the course
Each of the six, 7-week blocks are subdivided as follows: for weeks 1 & 2, all students will be exposed to key concepts relevant to the specialities in the form of seminars and small group sessions. For weeks 3 through to 7, approximately 30 students rotate through clinical experiences in Clinical Neurosciences, ENT and Ophthalmology.
