Congratulations to the five members of our Department who have been awarded the title of Professor in the recent round of the University’s Recognition of Distinction scheme.

'The awarding of the title of Professor recognises contributions to research and teaching at the highest level. It is a reminder of the diversity of science taking place in NDCN, from basic mechanistic neurobiology through to clinical research. This is our great strength and I hope that reading about the achievements of our colleagues will provide inspiration for us all.' - Professor Kevin Talbot, Head of Department

Jaideep Pandit: Professor of Anaesthesia

Jaideep Pandit - Consultant AnaesthetistJaideep Pandit is a Consultant Anaesthetist at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He is a Fellow of St John’s College, and editor of the journal Anaesthesia. His wide-ranging research interests include oxygen sensing, respiratory control and anaesthetics; management of the difficult airway; mechansims of anaesthesia; and operating theatre management. In 2014 he published the international report (NAP5, UK and Ireland) on ‘Accidental Awareness during General Anaesthesia’, the culmination of a four-year project making over 60 recommendations for clinical practice.

Sarah Pendlebury: Professor of Medicine and Old Age Neuroscience

MA (Cantab), BM BCh (Oxon), FRCP, DPhil Sarah Pendlebury - Professor of Medicine and Old Age NeuroscienceSarah Pendlebury works in the Centre for the Prevention of Stroke and Dementia,  and is a Consultant Physician at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. She studies the cognitive effects of cerebrovascular events and acute illness; interactions between vascular disease, neurodegeneration, comorbidity, and delirium; and how routine cognitive assessment for older patients can be operationalised to drive better patient care.

David Dupret: Professor of Neuroscience

David Dupret - Professor of NeuroscienceDavid Dupret is a Programme Leader in the Medical Research Council Brain Network Dynamics Unit. He investigates the circuit-level mechanisms of memory-guided behaviour. His research focuses on neural dynamics of memory circuits during active waking behaviour and sleep, and on in vivo multichannel recordings and optogenetic manipulation of neuronal ensembles. He is a Fellow of St Edmund Hall.

Jason Lerch: Professor of Neuroscience

Jason Lerch - Professor of NeuroscienceJason Lerch is the director of Preclinical Imaging at the Wellcome Centre for Integrative Neuroimaging. His current research focus is on detecting neuroanatomical changes due to behavioural and genetic manipulations in mouse models, primarily related to neurodevelopmental disorders, and to relate these findings to human subjects.

Andrea Németh: Professor of Neurogenetics

BSc; MB.BS; DPhil (Oxon); FRCP Andrea H Németh - Professor and Consultant in NeurogeneticsAndrea Németh is a Consultant in Neurogenetics at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. She is interested in the genetic mechanisms underlying normal function and disease within the central nervous system, including the retina. During her career she has characterised several novel genetic ataxia syndromes, but her focus also includes other conditions such as learning disability, dystonia and other movement disorders, epilepsy and spasticity.
