Postdoctoral clinical research fellow

Dr Jonathan Bedford is a post-doctoral research fellow and consultant in intensive care medicine. His academic work is based within the Critical Care Research Group, University of Oxford.

Jonathan joined the Critical Care Research Group as an Academic Clinical Fellow in 2016, and was awarded his DPhil in 2024, supported by a National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Doctoral Research Fellowship. His doctoral work focused on understanding the epidemiology, risk factors, and outcomes of new-onset atrial fibrillation (NOAF) during critical illness.

His broader research interests centre on using large-scale health data and digital health innovations to inform and improve clinical practice in critical care. He has a particular interest in the prevention and management of arrhythmias in critically ill patients, adaptive clinical trial design, and wearable technologies for in-hospital and home monitoring.

Jonathan is also committed to mentoring early-career researchers and supporting the translation of research into everyday clinical practice.
